Ensuring Worker Safety and Health Across the DOE Complex

Richard Minard, National Academy of Public Administration

OSHA regulation of occupational safety at the DOE complex would help make it safer while also facilitating DOE’s ongoing transition to performance-based contracting and a more efficient corporate style of safety and health management. Together, those changes would produce more effective management tools for the federal government. With appropriate support from Congress, DOE should formally transfer regulatory authority for occupational safety and health across the complex to OSHA.
